Fire Erupts on French Nuclear Aircraft Carrier Charles de Gaulle

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a fire incident occurred on the French nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. The Mediterranean Naval Command announced in a statement that the blaze erupted in the south of the country. The fire alarm was activated around 11:30 AM local time in a technical room adjacent to the aircraft hangar. The statement emphasized that no aircraft were on board the carrier at the time of the fire.
The ship’s crew immediately initiated efforts to contain the fire, and were subsequently joined by naval firefighting teams from the Toulon base. The blaze was brought under control after some time. The Charles de Gaulle has been undergoing technical maintenance since late August, a process expected to continue until early December.
This vessel is the sole aircraft carrier of its kind in France. Along with the United States, France is among the few nations possessing nuclear-powered aircraft carriers.
