US Bases in Region May Not Recover to Previous State After Iran Conflict, Intercept Reports

American military bases in the Middle East have sustained significant damage and some may face permanent closure following extensive strikes by Iran, according to the US-based outlet The Intercept. The extent of the losses raises questions about the future presence of American forces in the region.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, The Intercept has acknowledged that substantial damage inflicted on US bases in the region during the conflict with Iran casts doubt on the possibility of a full American return to the Middle East. American officials speaking to The Intercept emphasized that some of the primary US bases in the region have suffered severe damage, leading to their complete shutdown. It is highly possible that the structure of US bases in the region will never return to their former state.

The report indicates that Iran targeted over 15 American bases in the region. In a recent move, the US military relocated 12 of its B-1 bombers from a base in the United Kingdom out of fear of Iranian attacks.

Yesterday, prominent US Senator Chris Murphy stated in an interview that the US Department of Defense prevented him from accessing a key American military base in Qatar during his trip to West Asia. He characterized this action as part of the US administration’s efforts to conceal the repercussions of the war with Iran.

Reuters reported that Al Udeid Air Base, the largest US base in the region, has been repeatedly targeted by Iran during the conflict initiated by the United States and Israel in February.
