Yemen Accuses Saudi Arabia of Escalating Bab al-Mandab Tensions, Citing US and Israeli Interests

Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has blamed Saudi Arabia for intensifying tensions in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, alleging the actions serve U.S. and Israeli interests, while reaffirming Yemen’s commitment to its territorial sovereignty.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sana’a government, in a critical assessment of Riyadh’s actions, has designated Saudi Arabia as responsible for escalating tensions in the Bab al-Mandab Strait. The ministry stated that this designation is due to Saudi Arabia’s efforts to transform the region into a battlefield to advance the interests of the United States and the Zionist regime. Sana’a reaffirmed its commitment to asserting sovereignty over its coastlines and territorial waters.

The statement unequivocally held the “Saudi enemy” fully accountable for the recent surge in tensions in Bab al-Mandab. It emphasized that the international community has a duty to pressure Saudi Arabia to prioritize the rights of the Yemeni people, including the lifting of the blockade and an end to the aggression, rather than fueling conflict in the Bab al-Mandab.

The Sana’a Foreign Ministry further elaborated that the “Saudi enemy” has deliberately turned Bab al-Mandab into a theater of war and a zone of military engagement and confrontation. These actions, it stressed, pose a genuine threat to maritime navigation security.

Sana’a criticized the international community’s silence and perceived inaction regarding these developments, noting that these maneuvers solely benefit the interests of the United States and the Zionist regime. The ministry pointed out the stark contrast, highlighting the significant outcry from international bodies when the Yemeni people sought to exercise their national sovereignty over their territories on the western coast and in Bab al-Mandab.

In another section of its statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sana’a underscored its full adherence to international obligations concerning the security and safety of maritime navigation, particularly after the disruption of Saudi military encampments on the country’s western coast.

The ministry concluded by asserting that Yemen’s exercise of sovereignty over its territories, coastlines, and territorial waters does not pose any threat to global shipping and trade. Instead, it argued, such sovereignty would enhance the security of international maritime activities.
