Egypt and Turkey have officially launched joint naval exercises titled Friendship Sea 2026 in the port city of Alexandria, with operations scheduled to continue through November 9. The joint drills are designed to enhance bilateral military cooperation and tactical readiness between the two navies.

The exercises feature participation from various units of the Egyptian naval forces alongside elite Turkish naval special forces known as SAT. Key objectives on the agenda include joint maritime operational maneuvers, air defense drills, anti-submarine warfare tactics, and underwater infiltration operations.

These military exercises follow the resumption of defense ties between Cairo and Ankara after a hiatus that began in 2013. Defense relations between the two nations were officially re-established in September 2025 following the full restoration of their diplomatic and political ties.
