Kazakhstan Endorses Tajikistan Bid for UN Security Council Seat

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that Astana strongly supports Dushanbe’s bid to secure a non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council for the 2028-2029 period.
Speaking during a joint press conference with his Tajik counterpart, Emomali Rahmon, Tokayev emphasized the shared viewpoints of both nations on regional and global developments, noting that the Kazakh capital welcomes and endorses Dushanbe’s candidacy for the council.
He further underscored the necessity of preserving security and stability across the Central Asian region, describing sustainable development within the area as a mutual objective shared by all regional states.
This marks the first time Tajikistan has submitted a bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. Dushanbe previously garnered the backing of member states within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which officially announced its support for the candidacy in January 2023.
The UN Security Council comprises 15 members, including five permanent members and ten non-permanent members elected by the UN General Assembly for two-year terms.
