Chinese exercise to punish Taiwan’s separatist actions

China’s state television, CCTV, announced that the country conducted mock missile attacks near Taiwan as part of a military exercise. It has launched missile-carrying fighter jets along with bombers.

China’s show of power comes three days after Taiwan’s new president took office. In his opening speech, “William Lai Ching” asked China to stop “intimidating” Taiwan. 

China considers Taiwan a part of its territorial territory and has threatened to return that country in various ways, including resorting to military force to unite with its mainland.

China He called Lai “troublemaker” and “separatist”. In response to this exercise, Lai said that he will stand on the front line to defend the island. Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked China to be “rational” and “stop undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait”. They took that position. Chinese bombers tested the ability of the Chinese military to capture the island and control its key areas by making mock attacks in the waters east of Taiwan.
