The African Union’s concern over tensions in South Sudan
reports Mehr News Agency Africa expressed “deep” concern over tensions and clashes in South Sudan.
The African Union Commission said in a statement that the head of the commission pointed to the “deadly attack” on the UN helicopter in the Nasser region and widespread violence in other areas of the country and warned that these events threatened the peace process.
He urged all parties to restrain and urged officials to fully account for the perpetrators of violence and take the necessary steps to support citizens. Faki Mohammed called for an immediate halt, ceasefire and immediate entry into the national dialogue.
He also emphasized the request of the African Union that the southern Sudan parties must fully implement the Revitalized Peace Agreement.
It is noteworthy that South Sudan was drawn to the civil war after President Lassalva Kier Miadith on December 5, 2008, with his claim to have attempted an attempt to the coup.
