Reuters US officials meet Syrian foreign minister in New York
Informed Sources Report Meeting Between Al-Jolani Regime’s Foreign Minister and U.S. Officials in New York.
According to a report by the English section of webangah News agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, Asaad al-Shibani, the foreign minister of the Al-Jolani regime, has traveled to the United States.
Informed sources told Reuters that the Al-Jolani regime’s foreign minister will meet with senior U.S. State Department officials in New York today.
Two informed sources stated that this meeting will mark the first talks between U.S. officials and al-Shibani on American soil.
The meeting follows Damascus’ response earlier this month to a list of proposed conditions from Washington for easing sanctions.
Al-Shibani is currently in the U.S. to attend united Nations meetings.During this visit, he raised the three-star flag from the Syrian uprising era as the contry’s official flag at the United Nations headquarters.
Tami Brown, a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, had previously confirmed that some representatives of Syrian interim institutions were present in New York and participating in UN meetings.
However, she refrained from commenting on any potential meetings between them and U.S. officials.
She emphasized: “We continue to cautiously review our policy toward Syria and will judge interim institutions based on their actions.”
Currently, the United States has no plans to normalize diplomatic relations with the Syrian government, and I cannot preview any potential meetings.
These developments come as questions arise about the future of U.S.-Syria relations, particularly after over a decade of civil war and sanctions…The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most contentious issues in Middle Eastern diplomacy.
