Tragedy of deformed babies in Gaza a child born without a brain
Amid Gaza’s Malnutrition Crisis and Zionist Use of Unconventional Weapons, Babies Born with Severe Defects—Including Missing Brains
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr news Agency and Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, the ongoing and intensified brutal attacks by the Zionist regime against Gaza since the start of its genocidal war have led to a surge in babies born with congenital defects. These are direct and indirect consequences of the war, including severe malnutrition among pregnant women and Israel’s use of banned weapons and deadly chemicals in its bombardment of Gaza.
A Baby Born Without a Brain
One such infant is Malak Ahmed Al-Qanou,born last Friday at Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza without a brain, shocking many. Doctors at Al-Awda stated his condition is critical, with no chance of survival—he is now living his final days.
His grandfather, Abu Mahmoud Al-Qanou, told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed: “The hospital refused to admit Ahmed to the neonatal unit as his case was hopeless. Doctors said there’s no way he can survive—no one lives without a brain.” Born weighing 2.8 kg (6.2 lbs), Ahmed has all vital organs intact except his brain. “We feed him through a nasal tube,” his grandfather added. “His condition worsens daily; he doesn’t react or even cry.”
He stressed that genetic disorders were unheard of in their family—Ahmed’s older siblings were born healthy: “This is due to radiation and toxic gases from Israel’s banned weapons. No one in gaza has escaped these effects.” During pregnancy, scans showed no issues until doctors discovered the missing brain just one week before birth at As-Sahaba Hospital.
A Blue-Skinned Baby with Rare Genetic Disorder
another child, Mohammad Yaman Ibrahim saroor, was born blue-skinned amid the war—but that wasn’t the only shock for his family: he also suffers from treacher Collins syndrome, a genetic disorder causing deformities in ears, eyes, cheekbones, and chin.
His father said: “We have no family history of genetic disorders. twice , our home was bombed by Zionist forces while my wife was pregnant. The second time involved unexploded missiles… They dropped phosphorus bombs on us.”
A Baby Born with an Enlarged Head Who Died Days Later
Nimr Khaled Abu Harbid, another Gazan newborn suffered from both Down syndrome and hydrocephalus (fluid imbalance in the brain). He died 25 days after birth despite desperate efforts to save him via incubators. His father recounted: “Doctors said he’d be stillborn but he arrived alive… His head swelled daily; we lacked specialized hospitals here.” Displaced from Beit Hanoun under siege/bombardment while crammed into small rooms among 52 others worsened malnutrition for his mother.
Deepening Crisis: Congenital Defects Surge in gaza
Dr. Ahmad Al-Farra, head pediatrics director at Nasser Medical Complex (Khan Younis), explained pre-existing congenital issues worsened drastically post-war due blockade/warfare depriving mothers nutrients critical fetal development like folic acid/fatty acids found meat/fish/vegetables —now absent under siege conditions leading neural tube defects leaving babies braindead or mentally/physically disabled long-term even post-war period given lingering radioactive contamination water supplies via israeli uranium munitions per rising cancer/tumor rates documented early-2025 data showing heart/organ failures spiking across hospitals reporting cases monthly basis…
