Turkey’s ruling Party Reacts to PKK’s Decision to disband
According to the English section of “webangah News Agency,” citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Mayadeen, Turkey’s Justice and Development Party stated that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)’s decision to dissolve itself and lay down arms is a meaningful step toward achieving a terrorism-free country.
The party emphasized that this decision marks a major development and will lead to the closure of all branches of the PKK.
Earlier, a news outlet affiliated with the PKK reported its dissolution. Kurdish media also confirmed that the PKK has disbanded, ending its armed actions against Turkey and halting all related activities.
In an emergency congress statement, the PKK declared that Kurdish issues can now be resolved through political means. The statement added: “Accordingly, the PKK Congress has decided to dissolve its organizational structure and cease armed methods.”
Previously, Abdullah Öcalan, leader of the PKK, had called for disarmament and disbandment in a statement that drew global reactions and signaled hope for ending one of history’s longest-running armed conflicts.
