Microsoft laid off 6 thousand people
According to a report by the International Economics Desk of Webangah News Agency, citing Tasnim News Agency and The Hill, Microsoft stated on Tuesday that it has initiated layoffs affecting around 3% of its global workforce—roughly 6,000 employees.
A company spokesperson said in an emailed statement to The Hill: “We continue to implement necessary organizational changes to position the company for success in a dynamic global market.”
Based on Microsoft’s latest published data, the Washington-based corporation employs a total of 228,000 workers worldwide, with about 126,000 based in the U.S.
The Tuesday layoffs will impact thousands. Termination notices have already been sent to some employees.
Earlier this year, Microsoft had also downsized staff across various departments based on performance evaluations.Additionally, at the start of 2024, the company laid off approximately 1,900 employees from its Activision Blizzard and Xbox divisions.
the latest round marks Microsoft’s largest workforce reduction since January 2023, when around 10,000 employees (5% of its workforce) were let go.
Amy Hood,Microsoft’s CFO,commented during the company’s late-April earnings report: “Our operating margin increased by 1% year-over-year to 46%,exceeding expectations as we remain focused on building high-performing teams and increasing organizational agility by reducing management layers.”
The company—founded by American billionaire Bill Gates—reported Q3 FY2025 revenue slightly over $70 billion. Its net profit reached $25.8 billion, an 18% increase from the same period last year.
