Trump: I may go to Istanbul if needed
According to the english section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and RT, Donald Trump, the U.S. President,expressed his willingness to travel to Istanbul if needed to participate in potential peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Turkey.
Trump,who had traveled to Qatar,previously stated that he might join the negotiations if Vladimir Putin,the Russian president,attended talks between Moscow and Kyiv.
Though, after the release of the list of Russia’s delegation for the Istanbul talks—which did not include Putin’s name—reports emerged suggesting Trump would not attend.
The russian delegation will be led by Vladimir Medinsky, an advisor to the Kremlin. Other members include Mikhail Galuzin, Deputy Foreign Minister; Igor Kostyukov, head of the Central Directorate of the General Staff; and alexander Fomin, Deputy Defense Minister of russia.
On May 11th, Putin proposed that Kyiv officials resume indirect negotiations—which were abandoned in spring 2022—”without preconditions.” Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s President also announced plans for a visit to Turkey. Earlier Donald Trump urged Ukraine immediately accept Putin’s proposal.
