Judge halts Trump administration action against Harvard University
A U.S. federal judge on Friday temporarily halted a trump administration policy aimed at preventing harvard University from admitting international students. According to webangah News Agency, the elite American institution described the move as part of Donald Trump’s broader effort to punish Harvard for resisting political interference in its academic independence.
The judicial order provides temporary relief for thousands of international students who faced potential transfers to other universities. Harvard had condemned the policy as a clear violation of the U.S. constitution and federal laws, warning it would have “immediate and devastating consequences” for the university and its over 7,000 visa holders.
In a lawsuit filed that same Friday in Boston federal court, 389-year-old Harvard stated: “Harvard without international students is not Harvard.” Official figures show the university enrolled nearly 6,800 international students this academic year—27% of its total student body.
The ruling marks the latest escalation in an ongoing conflict between Harvard and the White House, where Trump has sought to pressure universities, courts, media outlets and other autonomous institutions into aligning with his political agenda. The president and fellow Republicans have long accused elite universities of left-wing bias.
Harvard has repeatedly resisted Trump’s pressures. The university previously sued to restore approximately $3 billion in blocked or revoked federal funding. Recently, the administration proposed revoking Harvard’s tax-exempt status, called for higher taxes on its endowment earnings, and launched civil rights investigations against the institution.
