Gaza’s health infrastructure collapses amid bleak future
According to webangah News agency, UNICEF spokesperson Kazem Abu Khalaf stated that medical teams in Gaza are operating under extreme pressure, facing severe shortages of medicines and medical equipment.
He added that power outages and lack of fuel for hospital generators compound the crisis in Gaza.
The UNICEF official clarified: ”The UN isn’t making unfeasible demands in Gaza – we’re calling for implementation of international law and the basic rights to healthcare, life, and movement for residents.”
“If this situation continues unchecked, we’re confronting a humanitarian catastrophe whose consequences will last decades,” Abu Khalaf warned. ”We’re seeing critical cases where children, women and the elderly die daily because proper medical care is unavailable.”
The spokesperson emphasized that aid deliveries alone won’t resolve the crisis: “We need a complete plan for economic infrastructure reconstruction, sustainably reopening crossings, and permitting entry of aid convoys carrying fuel and medical supplies.”
“Gaza’s healthcare system stands on the brink of total collapse from continuous Israeli attacks and blockade,” he reported.”Before the war, 36 hospitals operated in gaza – now only 18 remain functional, most at half capacity.”
Abu Khalaf revealed over 10,500 Palestinian wounded require treatment outside Gaza but current evacuation rates average fewer than two cases daily. “At this pace,” he stated bluntly, “it would take 13 years to evacuate all critically injured patients from Gaza.”
