Turkey’s Foreign Minister discusses ceasefire with Hamas
According to webangah News Agency, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone call with political leaders of Hamas on Thursday to discuss ongoing efforts to establish a ceasefire in Gaza. This follows the U.S.’s newly proposed truce agreement, which Hamas is currently reviewing.
A Turkish diplomatic source confirmed the talks, noting that Turkey-as a key regional player-is actively mediating to end the war in Gaza. The same source added that Fidan also spoke by phone with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani about developments in Gaza and Syria, though no further details were provided.
The discussions come after senior Hamas official Basem Naim criticized the U.S. ceasefire proposal, stating it woudl allow continued killings of Palestinians in Gaza and fail to stop what he described as “Zionist brutality” in the enclave.
