EU Considers Imposing Sanctions on Zionist Regime

European Council President suggests upcoming report could pave the way for measures against Israel.

According to ⁣ webangah News Agency, European Council ⁤President António costa announced that the European Commission is preparing a legal report that could enable actions against Israel.

The report ‍will ‌be presented during the EU foreign ministers’ meeting on June 23.

Sources ⁢indicate this document could allow partial sanctions ⁤against Israel without requiring full ⁣EU consensus, provided Israel fails to meet its human rights ‌obligations under Article 2 of its Association Agreement with the EU.

Costa commented⁣ on the potential ‌findings: “The situation in Gaza is entirely unacceptable. If you watch your television networks or ⁣read your newspapers, you’ll easily reach clear conclusions.”

Currently, 17 of 27 EU member states support this legal assessment, while nine oppose it.

Article 2 of the agreement establishes the legal framework for special EU-Israel relations, particularly in trade sectors. While terminating the entire agreement requires unanimous consent – unlikely given some members’ opposition – Brussels is exploring limited measures that could reduce cooperation levels through qualified majority voting instead.

Four European‌ diplomats ‍told Politico that pressure ⁤is ⁢mounting on the Commission to propose concrete steps for scaling back ties with Israel if human rights violations are ⁤confirmed under Article 2.

The development follows French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot’s call two weeks ago to reconsider this‌ agreement. Reports also suggest France, Britain, Netherlands and‌ Belgium are examining possible recognition of Palestinian statehood.
