Fidan: Sustaining Iran-Israel Ceasefire Is a Strategic Priority for Us
According to webangah News Agency, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized regional stability during the press conference, declaring that sustaining the Iran-Israel ceasefire, preventing its violation, and achieving lasting peace are among Ankara’s most critical strategic objectives under current conditions.
Highlighting extensive bilateral cooperation in economy, defense, and technology, fidan noted: ”Our foreign trade volume is nearing the $30 billion target-a goal we’ve pursued vigorously in recent years.”
Fidan stressed that while both nations have made significant efforts to enhance ties, broader opportunities exist in trade and investment. He underscored the necessity of updating their free trade agreement to further develop relations.
The minister added that Turkey and the UK share closely aligned foreign policy perspectives on gaza, Syria, Iran, Iraq, and the Russia-Ukraine war. Both countries support a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
Regarding ceasefire negotiations with Iran, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei addressed U.S. proposals for sanctions relief during his press briefing today: “We’ve seen before how peace overtures coincide with new sanction packages. These fluctuations are entirely unreliable-mere media theatrics. At the peak of diplomatic engagement last time [April 2024],Israel launched aggression against Iran with U.S. coordination without justification.” He asserted that Iran’s decisive response demonstrated continued hostilities woudl not serve enemy interests.
