UK Imposes New Sanctions on Russia
According too the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News agency and Reuters, the UK announced on Friday that it imposed sanctions on more than 20 Russian spies, hackers, and entities. London justified these measures by accusing Russia of a “sustained campaign of malicious cyber activity” aimed at destabilizing Europe.
The UK Foreign Office statement said that today’s sanctions target three units within the Russian military intelligence agency (GRU) and 18 officers. These include individuals alleged to have been involved in targeted attacks in Mariupol during the Ukraine war, and also espionage against former agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia prior to their deaths in 2018.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy condemned what he described as Russia’s “fear-mongering” tactics. He accused GRU operatives of conducting campaigns designed to destabilize Europe,undermine ukrainian sovereignty,and threaten the security of British citizens.
London also claimed that Russia has targeted media outlets, telecommunications providers, political and democratic institutions, and energy infrastructure in the UK.
