Clashes Persist Between Thailand and Cambodia in Border Area
According to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Today, clashes continued this Sunday morning in the border area between Thailand and Cambodia. The Thai Foreign Ministry stated that Cambodia initiated gunfire earlier today.
Meanwhile, Cambodia denied these allegations and claimed that Thai forces resumed their attacks this morning.
The Cambodian side added that in all conflict zones, artillery strikes, drone attacks, and cluster bomb launches have recommenced.
Yesterday, U.S. president Donald Trump sought to position himself as a peacemaker amid global conflicts. Addressing tensions between Thailand and Cambodia,he announced: “I will ask Cambodia and Thailand to agree to a ceasefire and end the war.”
The U.S. president also warned: “I told Cambodia and Thailand that if they remain at war,the United States will not sign any trade agreements with them!”
According to the Cambodian Ministry of Defense,at least eight civilians and five military personnel have been killed in the border fighting with Thailand.
Mali Suchita, spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of Defense, reported that 12 members of armed forces and at least 50 civilians have been wounded during clashes along the border with Thailand.
She added that a total of 35,829 Cambodian civilians have fled high-risk areas within Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, and Pursat provinces.
