Europe Seeks U.S. Support for 19th Sanctions Package Against Russia
The European union is considering new sanctions targeting about six russian banks and energy companies as part of its latest measures aimed at pressuring Moscow to end the war in Ukraine, according to reports from webangah News Agency citing Mehr News Agency and The Economic Times.
Insiders familiar with the matter said this nineteenth sanctions package could also target Russian payment systems and credit cards, digital currency exchanges, and impose further restrictions on Russia’s oil trade.
Sources who wished to remain anonymous added that the EU hopes to coordinate some of these latest measures with the United States.
In this regard, Reuters reported that on Monday, the European Commission stated David O’sullivan, its envoy for EU sanctions, along with a team of experts, is in Washington to discuss imposing additional sanctions on Russia with U.S. officials.
According to informed sources, the European Commission plans to propose this nineteenth sanctions package against Russia by September 12.
