Zelensky Claims Russian Attack Killed 20 Civilians in Donetsk
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing CNN via Mehr News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky alleged that a Russian strike today on a village in the Donetsk region killed at least 20 civilians.
Zelensky described the airstrike as “directly aimed at ordinary people and civilians,” adding that “such attacks by Russia should not go unanswered by the world.”
A video released by Zelensky showing this attack depicts bodies dressed in civilian clothes lying on the ground.
The president stated that the victims were targeted while receiving their pensions, distributed by mail among villagers. this village is located approximately two miles from the frontline.
despite not having full control of the Donetsk region,Moscow claims ownership over it. Kyiv reports that around 100,000 Russian troops have been deployed there for a new offensive along the frontline.
The governor of Donetsk claimed that 21 people were killed and an equal number injured in this attack.
Zelensky further emphasized that responses from the US, Europe, and G20 are essential. He called for strong measures to stop Russia’s ongoing killings.
This claim contrasts with statements from Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Russia’s Foreign ministry, who condemned what she said was a Ukrainian drone strike on a children’s playground in Donetsk yesterday. According to reports, Ukrainian forces launched an attack Sunday evening on Gulliver Park-a recently opened children’s playground were many civilians were present-resulting in six injuries including one child.
The regions of Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk and Luhansk were annexed by Moscow shortly after Russia began its invasion of ukraine in February 2022 following referendums reportedly supported by local majorities.
