Russia Launches Major Offensive Against Ukraine; Zelensky Declares Moscow’s Attacks Have No Military Justification

Kyiv officials⁤ report ⁣a large-scale‌ Russian attack on multiple ⁢regions⁣ in Ukraine, resulting in several deaths and injuries.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr⁤ Zelensky said the attacks targeted nine regions: Dnipropetrovsk, mykolaiv, chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Kyiv, odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv.

Zelensky claimed the enemy⁤ aimed at infrastructure, ⁣residential areas, and civilian companies. He added that one of ⁢the missiles fired carried ⁢cluster munitions⁢ that struck a multi-story building in Dnipro ⁣city.

in⁢ a ⁣message posted on his Telegram channel, Zelensky described these strikes as devoid of ‌military justification. He called them “a purposeful ‍strategy by Russia to terrorize civilians and destroy our infrastructure.”

The president had previously stated he expects to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of next week’s United Nations General Assembly ‍in New York.

Dnipropetrovsk Governor⁢ Serhiy Lysak reported‍ at least​ 30 people were⁤ wounded during the Russian attacks. Several high-rise buildings and‌ residential ⁤homes in eastern Dnipro sustained damage.

Kyiv officials say Russia launched its recent ⁤assault​ with 619 ‍drones​ and‌ missiles. Ukraine’s air defenses shot down or destroyed 552 drones along with two ballistic missiles and 29 cruise missiles.

UN Security Council Meeting on Ukraine

This attack comes ahead of a planned meeting next week where the United Nations Security Council will​ hold a ⁣ministerial-level session focused on Ukraine-an event diplomats describe ​as highly sensitive and notable.

Diplomatic sources⁤ told Kyiv Post that tensions over ⁤ongoing conflicts in ⁤Ukraine continue to escalate⁣ globally as this session ​approaches.

The meeting will involve senior diplomats ⁣from ‍security ⁣Council member states amid intensified diplomatic efforts alongside what sources call an increase in Russian attacks.

According⁣ to Kyiv Post, timing is critical for this ​session since ‌it coincides with the UN General Assembly. It is also seen as directly tied‍ to Ukraine’s diplomatic​ push with its allies toward achieving lasting peace and establishing ⁣security frameworks for the country’s future.
