Al-Sumud Fleet Approaches Near Greek Waters
The global fleet ”Al-Sumood,” moving to break the blockade of the Gaza Strip, reached the border area between international waters and Greek territorial waters near Crete Island on Tuesday, according to webangah News Agency’s English section citing Mehr News Agency and the Palestinian Facts Center.
Al Jazeera reports that Greek boats and ships are expected to join this fleet near Crete. Together, they will head towards Palestinian territorial waters. The convoy is projected to reach Gaza within six days.
For a third consecutive night, unidentified drones have been spotted hovering over the ships. The fleet’s management described this as an attempt to criminalize and undermine their humanitarian mission.
The commanders of “Al-Sumood” condemned threats from the Israeli regime against the fleet. They emphasized that their mission is peaceful and humanitarian, lawful under international regulations allowing maritime aid deliveries to Gaza.
Earlier reports stated that two Israeli drones targeted two ships in Tunisia’s Sidi Bou Said port in separate attacks. The occupying regime has remained silent on these incidents.
The fleet set sail about 23 days ago and includes dozens of vessels from approximately 50 countries worldwide. It represents the largest maritime effort aimed at breaking Gaza’s blockade.
This marks the first time such a large number of ships have collectively headed towards Gaza-an area currently facing a severe famine crisis that has claimed 440 Palestinian lives so far.
