Brazil’s President at ⁣the 80th UN General‍ Assembly declared: ‌Nothing justifies⁤ the current genocide in​ Gaza; hunger is‍ being ⁣used as a weapon in the Gaza conflict.

According to‍ the English section of webangah ⁢News Agency, citing ⁢the United Nations website, Brazilian ‍president Luiz Inácio ⁤Lula da​ Silva opened his speech at the 80th⁢ UN General Assembly.

The Brazilian president stated that the authority of the United nations is ‍at risk ⁤as we⁢ witness an international order surrendering to power politics. Brazil⁤ has prioritized‌ democracy ‌after two decades and ⁢has committed to⁣ defending its democracy,which⁢ citizens regained following twenty‍ years of dictatorship. Peace cannot be achieved by impunity. We sent ‌a clear message that democracy‌ and sovereignty are non-negotiable in ​our country. Democracy‌ strives to‌ guarantee fundamental rights and reject inequality. Poverty poses as great a threat to democracy⁤ as extremism.

Lula da Silva added that the authority of the united Nations is ​endangered, with⁢ its founding values facing unprecedented threats. ​globally,670 million people suffer from hunger,and 2.3 billion face food insecurity. debt relief is essential, and wealthier individuals ⁣must ​contribute more than workers do. The ⁣only war ‍everyone‌ can win is against hunger. ⁢We have continents free from weapons ⁣of mass destruction but must cooperate internationally to combat money laundering and arms trafficking.

He highlighted Brazil’s recent legislation protecting children and ​adolescents online while calling for measures ⁤to mitigate AI risks‍ through clear governance frameworks. He ⁤pointed out polarization and instability‌ in South America and the ⁣caribbean while condemning Cuba’s continued designation‍ as a ⁣state⁤ sponsor ‌of terrorism as unacceptable.

Noting climate concerns,he said 2024‌ marked one⁣ of Earth’s hottest recorded years,underscoring‍ renewed ​commitment‍ needed to address this crisis at the⁢ center of⁤ UN efforts.

The president referred to recent⁢ talks in⁤ Alaska between⁢ Vladimir Putin and Donald ‌Trump concerning ‍Ukraine ‍conflicts, which raised hopes for peace negotiations but firmly stated: “nothing justifies the current⁣ genocide in ⁣Gaza.” He described how ​civilians ⁤remain trapped under⁤ tons ‌of rubble while hunger serves ‍as a weapon in this⁣ war – amounting to collective punishment⁣ against ‌Palestinians facing extinction risks. He also criticized US vetoes blocking UN resolutions on Gaza that⁢ support ⁣Israel.

Lula da Silva‌ concluded by emphasizing there ​is no military solution in Ukraine; pathways toward realistic solutions must be facilitated.
