South Korea Responds to Reinstatement of Illegal Sanctions Against Iran

The ministry emphasized that as a responsible member of the international community, South Korea will continue its efforts to peacefully resolve Iran’s nuclear issue and promote peace and stability in the region.
South Korea’s Foreign Ministry also highlighted goverment efforts to minimize potential difficulties for Korean companies resulting from these developments.
Earlier, under pressure from the United States, the UN Security council rejected a Russian-Chinese draft resolution aimed at extending Resolution 2231, which had supported the nuclear deal with Iran.
Previously, Britain, Germany, and France accused Iran of breaching the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA), launching unfounded claims without mentioning America’s unilateral withdrawal from the accord in 2018 or violations by European parties. Aligned with Washington’s “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran, they initiated a 30-day process activating the snapback mechanism for reinstating UN sanctions.
