EU Extends Sanctions on Nicaragua for One More Year
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing the European union website,Brussels announced on Monday that sanctions against Nicaragua will be extended for another year, until October 15,2026.
The statement from the Council of the European Union reads: “Today, the Council has extended its restrictive measures regarding Nicaragua for another year until October 15, 2026. The current measures cover a total of 21 individuals and three entities.”
The Council added that these individuals are subject to asset freezes. EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing financial assistance to them.Additionally, these individuals face travel bans barring their entry or transit through EU territories.
It is noteworthy that Brussels cites alleged human rights concerns as justification for imposing and extending these sanctions on Nicaragua-a repetitive pretext. Simultaneously occurring, despite hundreds of days of ongoing atrocities committed by Israel against the Palestinian population in Gaza, Western powers have yet to take effective action against Tel Aviv to halt this significant violation of human rights in Palestine.
