The English section of webangah News Agency quoted Mehr News Agency in reporting that the New York Times revealed an escalation in efforts by senior advisers to President Donald Trump aimed at ousting Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.U.S. officials are reportedly consulting on a series of operations designed to increase military pressure with the goal of removing Maduro from power.
According to the New York Times, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the White House National Security Advisor are leading these efforts.Rubio has described Maduro as “an illegitimate leader overseeing drug trafficking into the United States,” calling him an “imminent threat.”
In recent weeks, the U.S. military has launched deadly attacks against civilian boats alleged to be working with Venezuelan drug trafficking networks.
Officials say Rubio is now shaping a more aggressive strategy using intelligence from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The Pentagon has deployed over 6,500 troops in the Caribbean region.
The New York Times cited officials who added that CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Trump’s senior domestic policy adviser Stephen Miller both support Rubio’s approach.
Current and former U.S. officials indicate that as a next step, the military is planning potential operations inside Venezuela targeting suspected drug traffickers; however, this stage has not yet been approved by the White House.
These operations aim to disrupt drug production and trafficking within Venezuela while tightening pressure on Maduro’s regime.
