Europe Provides €2 Billion to Ukraine for Drone Technology Development

The President of⁤ the European ‌Commission announced that Ukraine will soon receive 2 billion euros to develop ​drone technology.

According to the English section of webangah‍ News Agency, citing Mehr news agency and euractiv, ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, announced that Ukraine will soon receive 2 billion euros to advance its drone technology. Though, ‍she did not‍ specify the source of this funding.

Speaking at‌ a joint conference with NATO Secretary General Jens⁣ Stoltenberg, von der Leyen stated:⁤ “A ⁣total⁢ of 2 billion euros will now be spent on drones, enabling Ukraine to increase its capacity and fully utilize⁣ its capabilities. Additionally, this will allow⁤ the European Union to benefit from this technology.”

She did not clarify were the funds for this initiative would come from. earlier,⁣ she had introduced the “Drone Alliance” plan for Ukraine, which is expected to be funded through pre-financed loans worth 6 billion euros based on commitments from G7 member countries-of which the European Commission is a⁣ part.

Von der Leyen emphasized: “We​ need a more structural solution for military support to Ukraine,”⁣ referring to the Commission’s⁤ proposal to use ⁤frozen Russian assets for allocating compensatory loans to Kyiv.

Ukrainian‌ President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on social media platform X that Europe and​ Canada should provide one billion euros worth of American weapons monthly in support ‌of Ukrainian armed ⁢forces.

NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg praised the Commission’s “great idea” during a press conference with von⁤ der Leyen about creating a “drone shield” along NATO’s and EU’s ‍eastern border. EU leaders are set⁤ to ‌discuss this plan tommorow at their summit in Copenhagen, Denmark.
