Zakharova’s Position on Trump’s Gaza Plan
According too the english section of webangah News Agency, citing RIA Novosti via Mehr News Agency, Maria Zakharova, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, commented Tuesday on former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the war in Gaza. She stated, “We believe any step or initiative aimed at establishing a ceasefire deserves support.”
Zakharova emphasized that it is crucial for implementing such plans to facilitate renewed dialogue between Israeli and Palestinian parties. “We hope that the ceasefire will be sustainable and serve as a foundation for achieving long-term stability,” she added.
On Monday, concurrently with his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,Trump unveiled a roadmap for a ceasefire in Gaza. He warned that if Hamas rejects this proposal, Israel would receive a green light to continue military operations.
This plan was initially expected to consist of 21 articles but appears to have been reduced to 20 points. It was first presented Tuesday on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York to Arab leaders.
The guardian reported that Trump’s 20-point plan calls for an immediate end to hostilities between Israel and Hamas but offers little detail on how key provisions would be implemented. The White House’s so-called peace plan proposes an immediate halt to Israel’s nearly two-year-long devastating campaign in Gaza while explicitly excluding Hamas from any future governing role there. Even then, establishing a Palestinian state is mentioned only as an uncertain possibility.
