Tel Aviv and Trump Diverge on Hamas Statement
The English section of webangah News Agency,citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Al-Youm,reported that Israeli media quoted senior Israeli officials present at Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting wiht top officials last night as saying that the regime does not consider Hamas’s statement as acceptance of the American president’s plan concerning Gaza.
These Israeli officials said Tel Aviv’s understanding of Hamas’s statement differs from Donald Trump’s interpretation, who viewed it as an indication that Hamas accepted his proposal to halt the war in Gaza. Trump described Hamas as prepared for a permanent peace and called on Israel to instantly stop bombing Gaza.
According to israel Army Radio, quoting these officials, “Trump left Israel with no option but to interpret Hamas’s statement as agreement to negotiations.” The situation will be clarified in the coming days: either talks will succeed and prisoner releases will begin or intense fighting will resume.
On Friday evening, Hamas announced it had conveyed its response to the US president’s proposal for ending the war in Gaza through mediators.
