Heavy Clashes in Shorabak; Torghorm Passage Remains Closed
According to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Al Mayadeen via Mehr News Agency, Afghan sources reported intense fighting between Afghan and pakistani forces in Shorabak, southern Afghanistan.
These sources stated that the situation along the Durand Line border between Afghanistan and Pakistan remains stable overall.
They added that there is no official communication between the two countries to de-escalate tensions.
Simultaneously, an Afghan government source told Al Jazeera that clashes occurred overnight between the two nations.
Al Jazeera reported that all Pakistani border crossings with Afghanistan-including the Torkham crossing-have been closed for a third consecutive day following these clashes.The torkham crossing serves as a key commercial route, with most goods from Karachi port entering Afghanistan through this point.Many passengers also use this crossing, and local traders are concerned about potential losses due to prolonged closure.
Pakistani government officials told Al Jazeera that conditions at the border remain critical. They added that Afghan authorities have rejected Pakistan’s request to send a delegation to Kabul.
The sources noted this request was made through official channels but that Afghanistan’s ministry of Foreign Affairs declined to issue visas without explanation.
Casualties have been reported on both sides during these clashes so far.
