U.S. Launches Cyberattack on China’s National Time Service Center
According to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and japan Times, China’s Ministry of State Security accused the U.S. of stealing data and infiltrating Beijing’s national Time Service Center.
The statement, published on the ministry’s official WeChat account, claims that since March 25, 2022, U.S. intelligence exploited vulnerabilities in certain mobile phone models used by employees at the National Time Service Center to launch cyberattacks and access sensitive Chinese information. The specific phone brands were not disclosed.
The ministry further stated that starting from April 18,2023,American intelligence repeatedly used stolen login credentials to breach computers at the National Time Service Center.
These allegations come amid mutual accusations over recent years between Western governments and companies accusing Chinese hackers of cyberattacks on their systems-coinciding wiht escalating trade tensions between Washington and Beijing.
The National Time Service Center in Xi’an, northwestern China, operates under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It plays a critical role in setting, maintaining, and distributing China’s official standard time.
Chinese security officials say investigations show private servers worldwide were used to mask the origin of these attacks.The statement also emphasizes that Beijing has implemented preventive measures at the center to counter such cyber threats.
