Hungary Will Not Block Brussels’ New Sanctions Package Against Russia

Hungary’s Foreign ‌Minister says⁣ the country has no plans to block the European ⁢Union’s‌ 19th sanctions package against russia.

According to the English section of webangah News⁢ Agency, citing Mehr News agency and TASS, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó‍ stated⁣ that ⁣Budapest does not intend to prevent the ⁢EU’s decision to impose its 19th sanctions package on Moscow.

Responding to a question on this issue, Szijjártó‌ told Euractiv ⁢news, “We do not intend to block it.”

He added that ‌budapest has received exemptions for “all measures conflicting with Hungary’s national interests” within the new restrictions against ⁤Russia.

The⁢ Hungarian foreign minister also said in response to‌ questions about Hungary’s role in negotiations concerning new anti-Russian actions that Budapest does not support “nonsense⁣ efforts” and expressed confidence that “Brussels’ sanction policy against⁣ Moscow has failed.”

In September, the European Commission promised to adopt the ‌19th sanctions package against Russia but failed due to disagreements among EU member ⁢states.

European sources say reaching an agreement on sanctions at the upcoming foreign ministers’ ⁣meeting remains unlikely. The‌ matter is expected to be deferred until the summit scheduled ⁣for October 23-24.
