Qatar Appoints Ambassador to Syria After 14 Years
qatar’s Diwan Amiri announces the appointment of its ambassador to Syria by Emir Tamim bin hamad Al Thani after 14 years.
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Asharq Al-Awsat, Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al thani issued a decree appointing Khalifa Abdullah Saad Al Mahmoud Al Sharif as Qatar’s ambassador to Syria.
The Qatar Diwan Amiri stated in its proclamation that Khalifa Al Sharif is the first ambassador appointed by Qatar to Syria in 14 years.
Earlier this year, Qatari officials reopened their embassy in Damascus and raised their national flag over the embassy building in syria’s capital.
Doha had closed its embassy and recalled its ambassador from Damascus in july 2011, following the outbreak of unrest that evolved into a civil war between government forces and armed opposition groups.
