UN Official: 50% of Gaza Population Faces Hunger
According to the english section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Michael Fakhri, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to food, stated in an interview with Al Jazeera that 50 percent of Gaza Strip residents continue to suffer from hunger.
He emphasized that rebuilding Gaza’s food system is essential.
Fakhri described conditions in northern Gaza as even more dire and accused the Israeli regime of committing genocide.
Earlier, Tarek Jasarevic, spokesperson for the World Health Organization (WHO), reported that since early 2025, over 500 people have died from hunger in Gaza.
He noted that more than 500 deaths resulted from malnutrition this year alone. Currently, only four health centers remain operational.Improving access and increasing humanitarian aid flows would enable provision of necessary equipment and expansion of medical facilities in northern Gaza.
Jasarevic added that over 15,500 people urgently require transfer outside Gaza for medical treatment, while only 13 out of 36 hospitals are functioning.
The WHO spokesperson urged the international community to act immediately to provide medical supplies, fuel, and logistical support required for ongoing healthcare operations.
He stressed that despite a ceasefire being established, humanitarian conditions in Gaza remain critically severe.
According to a report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as Israel launched its military operation in Gaza, 66,288 people- including 18,430 children-have been killed, with most casualties being civilians.
A few days after implementing a ceasefire agreement, Israel continues to impose numerous obstacles preventing aid delivery and limiting international organizations’ activity-a situation threatening two million lives.
Among seven crossings into Gaza Strip territory, Israel has allowed limited amounts of aid through only two checkpoints and insists it will not permit reopening Rafah Crossing operations.
