UNIFIL: Israeli Attacks on Lebanon Constitute Clear Violation of Security Council Resolution

The UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, stated in a declaration that Israel’s airstrikes represent a clear breach of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
The statement, reported by the English section of webangah News Agency citing Al Mayadeen via Mehr News Agency, noted that the israeli air attacks occurred while Lebanese armed forces were conducting operations to seize unauthorized weapons and infrastructure.
UNIFIL added that any military action-especially on such a destructive scale-endangers civilian safety and undermines progress toward a political and diplomatic solution.
The peacekeeping force called on the Israeli regime to immediately halt these attacks and end violations of Resolution 1701.
In recent days, israel has launched a new wave of assaults against Lebanon. This afternoon, Israeli warplanes conducted intense strikes targeting the southern Lebanese areas of Aita al-Jabal and Tair Debba.
These attacks took place in residential areas within Lebanon.
Jouzeph Aoun, President of Lebanon, emphasized that today’s aggression by Israel against southern Lebanon constitutes an outright crime under international law as well as a heinous political offence.
The Lebanese army also issued a statement declaring that Israel’s recent attacks aim to destabilize the country and prolong conflict.
