Governor Julani: Military Operations in As-Suwayda Are Not Planned

The governor appointed by the‌ self-declared government of Mohammed al-Julani⁤ has ⁣stated that‌ there are no plans for military operations in the Druze-populated province of ⁢al-Suwayda.

According to the English section of webangah News‌ Agency, citing Syria’s official news agency SANA via Mehr News Agency,‌ Mustafa al-Bakkour, governor of al-Suwayda, announced that security forces of the Syrian Transitional Government are monitoring‍ the ceasefire in al-Suwayda province and have no plans‍ to carry out any military operations in the​ area.

Al-Bakkour also attributed recent escalations to local Druze defense ​forces,which he⁤ said are influenced⁣ by Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri,a ​prominent⁢ Druze cleric. Al-Hajri has advocated for closer ties with the Israeli regime.

Over the past three days, clashes⁣ between Druze​ forces and Arab tribes have continued in southern and western areas of al-Suwayda city. The druze have shelled positions ⁣held⁤ by Julani’s​ forces‍ along the contact line near Al-Majlah.
