Pope Leo XIV Urges Dialogue, Economic Pressure on Venezuela Amid US Military Option

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Pope Leo XIV, the head of the Catholic Church, has called on Washington to consider dialogue and economic pressure as viable alternatives to military intervention in Venezuela. His remarks came during a press conference held with reporters, where he addressed the potential for military action by the United States against the Nicolas Maduro regime.
Speaking to journalists on a flight returning from Turkey and Lebanon, Pope Leo XIV emphasized that the U.S. government should explore different strategies for bringing about change in Venezuela.
The Pope also described the signals emanating from the Donald Trump administration regarding U.S. policy toward Venezuela as “unclear.” He noted the apparent contradiction between reports of a potential phone call between the two presidents and the continued possibility of military action.
Pope Leo XIV, who was elected in May, is originally from Chicago and spent many years as a priest in Peru. He possesses significant familiarity with the Latin American region.
