UNRWA Condemns Israeli Raid on East Jerusalem Headquarters

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini stated that Israeli police forces stormed the agency’s compound in East Jerusalem earlier today, confiscating equipment, seizing property, and replacing the United Nations flag with the Israeli flag.
Lazzarini emphasized that the raid on the UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem represents a blatant disregard for Tel Aviv’s obligations as a member of the United Nations to protect and guarantee the inviolability of international premises.
He further asserted that the incident constitutes a new challenge to international law. According to Lazzarini, UNRWA staff were compelled to evacuate the compound earlier this month following provocative and threatening actions, yet the headquarters maintains immunity against any form of interference.
Lazzarini noted that Israel is a signatory to the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, which grants UN premises immunity and prohibits their inspection or seizure.
Palestinian sources reported on Monday morning that Israeli forces conducted a wide-ranging raid on the UNRWA headquarters in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem.
