Russia Reaffirms Support for Central African Republic’s Defense Capabilities

Russia’s ambassador to the Central African Republic stated that the country’s military is well-equipped and continues to develop its defense capabilities with Moscow’s support, amid growing Russian and Chinese influence in Africa.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Alexander Bikantov, Russia‘s ambassador to the Central African Republic, emphasized in an interview with TASS that the country’s military is well-equipped and continues to enhance its defense capabilities with Moscow’s support. The Russian diplomat highlighted that Russia remains the Central African Republic’s primary technical-military partner, adding that the prospects for bilateral defense industry cooperation are highly promising.

Previously, Central African Republic President Faustin-Archange Touadéra announced in a speech to the National Assembly that the country’s armed forces have grown from 6,000 to 26,000 personnel over the past nine years, with plans to further expand to 50,000 troops.

The growing influence of Russia and China in Africa has drawn concern from European and American officials regarding their economic, political, and military cooperation with African governments.
