UN Special Rapporteur Calls for Suspension of Israel’s UN Membership Over Gaza Genocide

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, has called for the suspension of Israel’s membership in the UN General Assembly and the imposition of political and cultural sanctions against the regime. Albanese emphasized that Israel, due to its commission of genocide in Gaza over the past two years, should not be treated as an ordinary UN member. “The truth cannot be silenced, and Israel should not sit in the UN as if nothing has happened,” she stated.
Albanese also strongly criticized the Zionist regime’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, describing it as blatantly contradictory to the scale of its crimes. She noted that Eurovision has become one of the first international platforms showing signs of practical sanctions against Israel.
The UN rapporteur stressed that sanctions should not be limited to the cultural sphere but must be accompanied by serious political and legal measures at the international level. “Israel has violated human rights for years, but in the past two years, the intensity and scope of violence have reached unprecedented levels,” she added.
Albanese described Israel as an illegal occupying power and an apartheid regime, highlighting its ongoing legal cases at the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice. She urged the international community to take more decisive actions to restrain the occupying regime, stating, “Public pressure, alongside governments’ adherence to international law, can create a chain of effects. I hope this will lead to the swift cessation of Israel’s crimes.”
