Islamic Cooperation Organization and 21 Countries Condemn Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation and 21 member states have issued a joint statement rejecting Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, calling it a violation of international law and Somalia’s sovereignty.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and 21 Islamic and Arab countries have strongly condemned Israel‘s recognition of Somaliland as an independent state. In a joint statement, the signatories, including Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey, declared the move a clear violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, which emphasizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.

The statement firmly rejected Israel’s decision, stating that it undermines Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity. The OIC and its member countries reaffirmed their full support for the Federal Republic of Somalia and denounced any actions that could destabilize the country.

Israeli Foreign Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the establishment of full diplomatic relations with Somaliland, including the exchange of ambassadors and the opening of embassies. Netanyahu described the agreement as a significant opportunity to expand cooperation under the Abraham Accords framework.

Media reports from Israel had previously suggested Somaliland as a potential relocation site for Palestinians from Gaza, though no official plans have been confirmed. Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but has not been recognized by any UN member state.
