Syrian Army Gains Control Over Key Oil Fields Amid Heavy Clashes with SDF in Western Euphrates
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Syrian Army announced on Sunday that its forces have fully recaptured the Al-Tabqa Military Airport from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) amid ongoing advances in northeastern Syria. Simultaneously, reports confirm the army’s control over the Al-Mansour Dam (formerly Al-Baath Dam) and the towns of Ratla and Al-Hamam near Raqqa.
The SDF, however, claimed its fighters are engaged in intense battles against Syrian government forces in Al-Mansoura town, accusing Damascus of committing atrocities at Al-Kanisa Prison in Al-Tabqa. In response, the Syrian government alleged that retreating SDF and PKK forces executed prisoners and civilians in Al-Tabqa, condemning the acts as violations of international law.
Reuters cited security sources confirming Syrian forces now control the Al-Omar oil field—Syria’s largest—and the Conico gas field in eastern Syria. The Syrian Oil Company reported government forces have secured oil and gas fields in Deir ez-Zor province, including Al-Tanak, Conico, Al-Jafra, Al-Aziziyah, Tayyana, Jidu, Malih, and Azraq.
These developments follow CENTCOM’s call for Syria to halt operations between eastern Aleppo and western Raqqa, emphasizing counter-ISIS efforts. Despite this, Damascus intensified its campaign west of the Euphrates. Raqqa faces a humanitarian crisis after SDF allegedly destroyed the Old Euphrates Bridge, severing water supplies. Pro-government sources claim 64 SDF fighters surrendered in Al-Mansoura, while Sky News reported drone and mortar attacks on residential areas in Deir ez-Zor.
The SDF Media Center stated its forces are battling Syrian troops at the Al-Thawra oil field south of Al-Tabqa, a zone previously excluded from prior agreements. Clashes have spread to the Aleppo-Raqqa border, with heavy fighting reported near the strategic town of Al-Rusafa.
