475 High-Risk ISIS Members Transferred from Syria to Iraq

Nearly 500 dangerous ISIS militants, mostly Syrian nationals, have been moved from Syria to Iraq, according to senior security sources, with a ceasefire extension likely needed to complete the operation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, 475 high-risk ISIS members have been transferred from Syria to Iraq in four groups as of Tuesday night, based on data published by Rudaw and cited by Mehr News Agency. Senior security sources confirmed the operation, noting that 95% of the prisoners are non-Iraqi, with the vast majority being Syrian nationals.

The detainees, previously held in Guweiran Prison, are among the most dangerous ISIS operatives and include senior leaders of the terrorist organization. One security source emphasized that completing the transfer of all prisoners within the remaining days would be impossible without extending the current ceasefire agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The ceasefire was initially established to support U.S.-backed operations transferring ISIS detainees from SDF prisons to Iraq. The ongoing process highlights the complex security challenges in the region’s counterterrorism efforts.
