Russia Condemns U.S. Kidnapping of Venezuelan President as Violation of International Law

Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova denounced the U.S. abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife as a serious breach of international norms, warning of global repercussions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia has condemned the United States’ recent abduction and extradition of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife as a flagrant violation of international law. Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that the operation, which took place on January 3, has caused widespread shock and drawn criticism from numerous nations.

Zakharova, speaking during a meeting with students in Moscow, emphasized that the incident represents a dangerous escalation in international relations, crossing conventional boundaries. She warned that the action would have significant consequences for global security and stability.

U.S. forces conducted the operation in Venezuela, capturing Maduro and his wife before transporting them to New York for prosecution. American authorities have charged the couple with alleged ties to drug terrorism and threats to U.S. national security—accusations that Maduro and his wife have firmly denied.
