UN Warns Quarter of Lebanon Faces Severe Food Shortages

The United Nations World Food Programme has reported that approximately 1.24 million Lebanese, or one in four citizens, are experiencing acute food insecurity, a situation exacerbated by widespread displacement and economic turmoil.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has released a food security assessment indicating that between April and August 2026, an estimated 1.24 million individuals, representing roughly one in every four Lebanese citizens, are facing severe food insecurity. This data was reported by Mehr News Agency, citing RIA Novosti.

The WFP emphasized that extensive population displacement, surging prices for food and fuel, market disruptions, and pervasive economic challenges have intensified the ongoing crisis in Lebanon.

Recent Israeli attacks on Lebanon have led to the displacement of a significant portion of the population in the southern regions of the country, along with the destruction of agricultural lands and orchards.
