IAEA Chief Grossi Offers Agency’s Role in Verifying Potential Iran Nuclear Deal

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Rafael Grossi, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), announced that the agency is ready to play a role as a mediator for the verification of a potential nuclear agreement between the United States and Iran. This development comes despite concerns regarding the IAEA’s performance concerning Iran, where the agency’s actions, including the transfer of confidential information to adversarial parties, have reportedly damaged its credibility, even amidst extensive cooperation from Iran.
Grossi emphasized that verification is the most critical function of the IAEA. He highlighted the importance of the agency’s participation in this process, stating, “When they reach an agreement and ask us to verify it, I will need to communicate with the Board of Governors and obtain their approval.” Previously, Grossi had asserted that any nuclear deal between Iran and the United States without a verification mechanism would remain merely on paper.
