Italy Blocks NATO’s 2027 Aid Plan for Ukraine Amidst Diplomatic Deadlock

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, diplomatic sources indicate that Italy’s refusal to commit to an 80 billion dollar loan for Ukraine in 2027 has stalled consensus within the NATO alliance. This development comes as member nations grapple with differing views on the duration of support for Kyiv.
German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported that the disagreement stems from Italy’s stance on the timing of future aid packages. While other NATO representatives have reportedly endorsed a draft declaration for the upcoming summit in Ankara, which earmarks 70 billion euros for armaments, support, and training for the Ukrainian military in 2026, the extension of this commitment into 2027 remains contentious.
The initial draft proposal suggested continued assistance in 2027 at a “comparable level,” but Italy’s objection to extending the aid timeline has left the matter unresolved. Adding to the complexities, the United States has also reportedly blocked the inclusion of language that would describe an “inseparable link” between Ukraine’s security and that of Europe.
