US Vice President Vance Warns of Retaliation if Iran Attacks Shipping

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance asserted in an interview with Fox News that the United States will respond if Iran attacks shipping vessels. Vance’s remarks come as technical discussions between the U.S. and Iran continue, with Vance claiming that Iran would permanently abandon any pursuit of nuclear weapons if negotiations succeed.
While many in American circles accuse the current administration of a failed strategy in confronting Iran and a weak approach to negotiations, Vance posited that the U.S. is in a strong position regardless of the talks’ outcome. He specifically relayed President Donald Trump’s declaration that any Iranian attacks on ships would be met with a U.S. response.
Vance noted that Iran has not attacked any ships in the past two weeks, and oil sales through the Strait of Hormuz are proceeding. He continued to employ a familiar strategy of threatening Iran while negotiations are underway. This occurs despite what the text describes as extensive U.S. efforts over 40 days, in conjunction with the Israeli regime, to significantly harm Iran’s nuclear and military programs, which instead resulted in numerous U.S. bases in the region facing heavy Iranian attacks. Vance claimed, “If Iran does not provide the concessions we expect, their nuclear program will be devastated and their military capabilities will remain crippled.”
Operating within a “carrot and stick” policy framework, Vance added, “The President has asked us to pursue the path of negotiation, and if this process does not lead to a successful diplomatic solution, we have many options.”
In further statements regarding the progress of talks with Iran, the U.S. Vice President alleged that technical discussions between the two sides are proceeding based on previous negotiations. He also maintained that Donald Trump desires to continue the diplomatic path with Iran, but this process must be grounded in verifiable commitments.
Vance elaborated that the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear program must be confirmed through continuous and verifiable inspections. The U.S. Vice President stated that Trump has ordered the initial use of a “Memorandum of Understanding” to return oil to global markets and bolster global energy supply, after which subsequent negotiation stages will be evaluated.
The U.S. Vice President outlined Washington’s two options concerning Iran: either strive for a long-term agreement with Tehran, conditional on a change in Iran’s behavior, or consolidate the gains already achieved. He concluded by acknowledging significant uncertainty surrounding developments, stating that no one can confidently predict Iran’s next move.
