Pakistan Affirms Mecca Defense Pact is Non-Aggressive, Open to Regional Partners

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Pakistan‘s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has clarified that the Mecca trilateral defense agreement, inked by Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, possesses a strictly defensive nature and is not aimed at any specific country. In a statement released on X, Dar highlighted that the sole objective of the joint defense pact is to further bolster ongoing collaborative efforts towards achieving peace, stability, and welfare across the broader region.

The agreement, which was officially signed by the three nations in Mecca on Friday, stipulates that an attack on any one of the signatory countries will be considered an attack on all three. Dar further indicated that this defense treaty remains open to any country in the region that is willing to adhere to its fundamental principles and resolve disputes through mutual respect, cooperation, and peaceful means.

He underscored that under the terms of this accord, any external armed aggression directed at any of the three countries would be construed as an assault on all of them. This stance is in alignment with the inherent right to individual and collective self-defense, as enshrined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. Dar also added that the pact does not supersede or replace any existing bilateral or multilateral agreements between these nations, nor does it affect their arrangements with other countries or organizations.
